After the Barbary Wars, the pirates ceased attacking American ships. The Barbary pirates were finally defeated in 1830 after the French’s conquest of Algiers. America could now trade in the Mediterranean without fear.

This is a very important topic in United States history. America’s navy was first built to fight the pirates. Passports became more important and popularized due to the Barbary Pirate Crisis. Victory over the pirates further cemented the U.S as a more secure, strong and capable nation.
